DEREK WINTER LL.B – HM Coroner for the City of Sunderland Non-Practising Consultant Solicitor
Derek enjoyed a long and successful career with Mortons; having joined the firm in 1983 following successful completion of his Law Degree at the University of Hull, he became an accomplished practitioner with an enviable reputation, gained over many years as a specialist Family Lawyer with particular expertise in the areas of child abuse and adoption.
His expertise led to his instruction in a number of high profile cases, one of which resulted in the successful recovery of a child who had been abducted to Australia.
In 2003, Derek was appointed HM Coroner for the City of Sunderland and has worked tirelessly since then, to reform and update the service provided to the people of Sunderland. Although no longer a practising Solicitor, he remains committed to Legal Practice within Sunderland and has been instrumental in campaigning for a new Court Centre within the City, which will be of benefit to the legal profession and lay users alike.
Although Derek retired from Practice as a Solicitor in October 2009, he continues in his role as Coroner for the City of Sunderland.
